The Key Documents
The descriptions below provide a roadmap into the documents used to develop the FY2015 annual Belmont Town budget and the annual Belmont Public Schools budget.

BelmontBudget.org does not CREATE any of the budget documents referenced on this page. These documents are made available to the extent they are available from the Belmont Public Schools and the Belmont Town Administrator's office. The same documents can be obtained directly from those sources.

• Belmont Public Schools Budget
• The document labeled "FY2015 BPS Superintendent Cover Letter" provides an introduction and analysis of the proposed BPS budget and a discussion of the financial issues facing the Schools.
  
  
• The document labeled "FY2015 BPS Budget Presentation" is the presentation made to the February 10, 2014 meeting of the Board of Selectmen. It presents a FY2015 budget for the Schools linked to specific strategic goals and budget objectives. This document also includes a discussion of budget planning assumptions and issues.
  
  
• The final document provides all the underlying details of the proposed BPS FY2015 budget. The tables in this document compare actual FY2013 results with projected FY2014 results and the requested FY2015 budgets. The data is organized by "program" (English, Reading, Art, etc) and provides a narrative for each section in addition to the "numbers". This document is an Excel workbook and should be opened as "read-only."
  
  
• Belmont Town Budget
• The document labeled "Section 1: Budget Message" provides a high-level analysis of the Town budget and a discussion of the financial issues facing the Town. This letter, signed by David Kale (Town Administator) is a good introduction to "what the numbers mean."
  
  
• The document labeled "Section 2: Budget Summary" provides the next level of detail. It opens with a timeline of the Town's budget development / approval process that culminates the first week of June with Town Meeting. The document then examines Revenue by line item and Expenditures by "department". The tables displayed in this document compare actual FY2013 results with projected FY2014 results and the requested FY2015 budgets.
  
  
• The eight documents labeled "Section 3" comprise a set and provide a wealth of background information about the Town's various "departments". Within this set of documents can be found a description of the functions performed by every Town department and the associated staffing levels. The input and output measurements of each department can also be found and often a discussion of department priorities and goals.
  
  
• Finally, the document labeled "Section 4: Budget Details" provides all the underlying details of the proposed Town budget. Specifically, it provides line-item detail of Town revenue and department-level detail of Town expenditures by account. As with the Budget Summary, the tables in this document compare actual FY2013 results with projected FY2014 results and the requested FY2015 budgets.
  
  Note that this document also includes information about capital expenditures and the Town's water/sewer enterprise funds.
